My World has gone into the quicksand that is Time.
It is a history you may learn but never truly know.

The purpose of this website is not for the collection of lists of names; it is for the remembrance of those who have gone before by those who are presently here, for those who will follow after.

The information here has references to various citation sources: however this is a joint effort and I cannot accept full credit for the information supplied: it comes from leads from my own meagre researches, that of family, friends on the internet, research by new found cousins, one of whom I actually sat unknowingly next to in school in Ballycastle, and from research carried out by... My sister KATE (KateC) who over many years, had access to the Archivist of Manchester Cathedral, our Aunt Rose wife of Frank Gore. Kate also made use of Lichfield Records Office and numerous other places in her long research. She is also responsible for allowing me to use the Marsden/Gore images, the originals of which belong to ©Mark, Elizabeth and Lucy Gore, children of Rose and Frank Gore who are our cousins. MARIAN AND IRIS in Antrim, JOAN in Australia, HUGH McGOWAN and his father SAM, without whom the Cushnaghan link might have eluded me forever: Cassidy/Cushnahan/Coushnaghan/McNeill/McGowan &c Barbara Graham and Dorothy Mayes: as of March 2009 they have brought John Cushnaghan, his wife Margaret O'Neill and their descendants into the tree. Slowly the Cushnaghan/Cassidy line is re-assembling and becoming one. WILLIAM CUSHNAGHAN Another great grandchild of Andrew and Ann. Grandson of John, son of John, he really is a missing link we had no idea was missing and we are very grateful he has joined us here. "James Cochnahan" Great grandson of Mary Cushnaghan for Ann Blue her family and so much more Ken Gore Like a bolt from the blue Ken found me and I hope to exchange much fruitful information with him in the future. MAUREEN BRYSON who spent many hours researching the Bright Line ANNIE GERHARD The Williamson Family of Pendleton and other areas of Lancashire GERRY MULGREW of Donegal, who lead me out of a blind alley and into the countryside of Tyrone to the Mulgrew ancestors DARREN BURTON for the Bagnall family information, without which I floundered terribly. RORY LACHLAN READ for his excellent site, for the many questions he has answered there, and for the information I have gleaned from his fountain of knowledge to ALAN CLATER for solving the Clater mystery... NICK JACKSON for supplying all the information and leads relating to Mary Ann Bright, George Groom and their descendants. Susan Todd for supplying the information regarding her descent from the Bright Line to Valerie Heighton Cullison for all the information relating to the Heighton - Bright descendants in America. U.S.Genweb This is a Goldmine for those of us outside the United States. Much Marsden information comes from this project and I am sincerely gratefull for all the aid given to me. Jane Sumpter of Bassetlaw Museum & Percy Laws Memorial Gallery, Armcott House, 40 Grove Street, Retford, Nottinghamshire, for all her kindnesses and endeavours to provide me with much valuable information and leads concerning the CLATER family. Jeff STOKER, Astley Village, Chorley, Lancashire for leading me back through the winding road from my grandmother Florence MARSDEN, all the way to Peter de MERCLESDEN, ("Peter the Chaplain") mentioned in the Pipe Rolls of 1194-1197) William C Latham for his data concerning the MARSDEN/LATHAM connection Ralph Lindsay Young in Troon for his deeply appreciated information concerning Samuel & Peter Coushnaghan/Cassidy, Agnes Bailie's ancestry and descendants and all the family doors he has opened in one fell swoop. On this one point I am greatly appreciative because of course I began my researches attempting to discover my Father's ancestors and peers. Patsy Leathers-Hamilton of Kansas City for her invaluable work in tracing the descendants of Thomas Leather, following this Leather branch to their new home in America. Jane Power for her aid and information with the Collingwood descendants and to all Registrar's and their staff - especially Jean in Great Yarmouth, the members of the various Family History Centres for all their invaluable help - especially Clare Cabrie in Paisley, and everyone I have forgotten to mention for thir advice, kindnesses and patience. It may be that some may look here and wonder why I have followed certain lines. I am plagued by curiosity: he/she married her/him but where did he/she originate? This is an on-going, never-ending project which I hope, one day will be used by others to demonstrate how families fluctuate and change, how relationships can be life-long or transitionary, how individuals from many different locations and levels of society can share a heritage: even one much diluted: but mostly I hope our future generations will look back and thank us all for our efforts, and not be like me, always receiving "You don't need to know that!" as an answer to my queries. The abbreviations: 'Hunts' is Huntingdonshire: 'Nothants' is Northamptonshire: 'Lincs' is Lincolnshire, all in England. And, in Ireland we say 'County Antrim' & not 'Antrim County' etc., Any confusion please contact me. Where only a birth and/or Death year appears without Month and Day treat it as an approximation and not the actual date. It may be simply the Christening/Baptism or Burial year. As you wander through this site please note any mistakes and report them to me so that I may check/correct them. I periodically download the tree to my computer for checking. However uploading it again DOES result in some mistakes - bad karma between Tribal Pages and Family Tree Maker. You will also notice that some Christenings and Marriages appear suspiciously close together: this is not unusual as some families left Christenings for some period after the actual birth. Take this as an example:

VENTERS, Abbot Christening Gender: Male Birth Date: 13 Dec 1759 Christening Date: 11 Mar 1770 Recorded in: Bythorn, Huntingdonshire, England Father: Abbot VENTERS Mother: Ann Source: FHL Film 1040980

Note the 11-year gap between birth and christening dates. And of course, it can work the opposite way, where a birth is not actually registered until after a Christening has taken place. Unless you have certified proof treat all pre-1837 Birth dates as Christening dates

No account is taken here of the 1974 UK boundary changes. Events occuring in Birmingham for instance occured in Warwickshire, similarly Walsall events occured in Staffordshire. Record Keepers do not recognise the new County formed by disecting the old Counties and Shires, nor does this History.

This is a history, the fluctuations and changes of many lives, hence I have not used capital letters for surnames: I have used ordinary writing for ordinary people, leading ordinary lives.

Perseverance is the key to unlocking this history...and an awful lot of patience!
